The Lobsang Rampa defence

"Twelve days after the Herald's revelations that the author Norma Khouri fabricated her best-selling book Forbidden Love, her publisher Random House has lost track of her and is 'increasingly concerned' at her silence.
...Last week she set, through intermediaries, several deadlines by which she would come out with her evidence. Each deadline has passed, and she has not told Random House whether she is at her home on Bribie Island, elsewhere in Australia, or even, as has been reported, in the United States. It is understood the publisher has not spoken with her for nine days."
KItabkhana suggests that Khouri might want to try the T Lobsang Rampa defence. T Lobsang Rampa's account of how he grew up in a lamasery was proved to be a fraud when the Daily Mail discovered that "Rampa" was the son of a Devon plumber, whose real name was Cyril Henry Hoskins. As Nicholas Parsons recounts in The Book of Literary Lists:
"When the story broke, Hoskins/ Rampa was holed up in a Dublin hotel, but said he could explain everything. He was, he said, actually an Englishman whose body was inhabited by a Tibetan lama. This bodily possession had occurred one day after he fell out of a tree while trying to photograph an owl. As he lay stunned on the ground a lama in blue and saffron robes floated towards him and then, so to speak, entered him."
