Bombay Blues

India Uncut and Indian Writing, among others, have done a great job of keeping us updated on flood stories and news, aside from the blogs we mentioned in the last post.

The Babu has little to contribute here, but heeding the grumbles of a Bombay pal who says he's sick of stiff upper lips and stoic stories, here's a list of Alternate Bombay Books We'd Love To Read. This one's for you, Naresh.

1. Midnight's Geriatrics
Courtesy his new dentures, Saleem Sinai bites back.

2. Love and Flogging in Bombay
An intimate peek into the closet world of suburban whip-wielders.

3. Maximum Shitty
A dark journey through the guts of Bombay's real underworld: the sewage system.

4. Shanta Rum
Raw tales of adulteration among the hooch kings of Dharavi

5. Vertigoa
Fleeing the commute, the office politics and a terrible family history for sand and sun.

Two you left out:

Family Shatters
An addiction to TV serials causes the break-up of a joint family as one remote is No Longer Enough.

As the clouds burst, an immigrant frantically searches for a water closet.
