Childe Woland to the Dark Tower comes

If you haven't read Mikhail Bulgakov, here's a good reason: you have got to love a writer who can get the Church all hot and bothered 64 years after his death.
The Master and Margarita is being filmed (got to see that one), and the Russian Orthodox Church is not pleased.
"A senior Orthodox official told the Guardian that cinema was "not an adequate means of interpreting the Gospel" - icons were more appropriate. Father Mikhail Dudko, head of the secretariat for church and society, said: 'We Christians know four gospels, and in Bulgakov's book we see a kind of fifth: a gospel narrated by Satan, [who is called] Woland in the book. And the interpretation is in Satan's favour. Our reaction to such an interpretation can be nothing but negative.'"
Drop by the "multimedia site" created by Kevin Moss in homage to The Master and Margarita.

About the Borges quote just beneath Kk's logo ... just today, reading it for the nth time, I realized that it really doesn't work for me. (a) The verb "will" suggests that he's a little over-confident about getting in there and (b) okay, so we all like books here on earth, but in PARADISE?? Supposedly, that's a place where we wouldn't need distractions, recreations, high literature or low. We would be living in the glisteningly infinite NOW. All books (and all other phenomena too) ever written and to be written and as yet undreamt of would automatically be part our cosciousness (c) How come a grown up author believes in Paradise, anyway? (d) Okay, that last point was a cheap shot. We're all allowed to believe in Paradise. (e) But it could never be a library.

Ah, but then the authorised version of Paradise has never appealed to me (or Borges dada) precisely because it cuts out all the good stuff. I don't want to be above it all; I want to be, like JLB, in everlasting bliss as I rummage stacks that never end, that don't contain a single Danielle Steele or Paris Hilton memoir.
Maybe we should amend that: Paradise is your very own *personal* library. Where the bookstore guys really, actually, truly know exactly what you want to read next and never have to order it by ship, camel or snail-pulled sled.
