Under 30, have a novel in you? It's worth sixty thousand pounds if it wins the newest prize on the block, The Dylan Thomas Prize, for great fiction written in English anywhere in the world by anyone under thirty. (If you're 31 and you've just reached 'The End', bet you're feeling pretty stupid right now.)
Two observations: 1) there are too many literary prizes in the world already, it's beginning to resemble those nauseating parties for brats in Delhi where the brats who go to the party bring presents and the brat who throws the party buys presents for the brats who brought presents and they repeat the same stupid cycle ad infinitum at the next kiddie blowout. All you're left with in the end is an excess of rubber dinosaurs.
and 2) having said that, I'd be cool with the prize if the organisers made it mandatory for the winner to down 18 whiskies at the awards ceremony.
